Gerhard Domagk was the inventor of Prontosil, the first commercialized and mass produced antibiotic. His discovery was one of the most defining of the century, beginning a whole new avenue of medical research. His antibacterial drug and its derivatives saved tens of thousands of lives, essentially creating our modern medicine.

Gerhard Domagk was born in 1895. he attended several prestigious medical universities, as a student, lecturer and teacher. He invented the first commercialised and mass-produced antibiotic, Prontosil, in 1932, and it was released in 1935. He won the 1939 Nobel Prize, and later discovered several important medical chemicals, some still used today.
Gerhard Domagk discovered many potent and useful medical substances.
The undisputedly most famous invention is Prontosil, the first mass-produced antibiotic. It saved thousands of lives, and encouraged the later antibiotics such as Penicillin.
